Pandal – 3 – Dum Dum Park Tarun Sangha

This one was just out of the world. The theme of this Pandal was Beniya Katha · Stories of the merchants.

It featured ships, sailors, traders and trade routes. The Durga was made of clay in its raw colour. This place would look even better at night with all the lighting. But we had the luxury to slowly walk through the place and see everything in detail rather than rushing our way through in the night.

The pandal was set on the banks of a lake and that added to the feeling even more. The paintings on the wall had a 3D outline to it which looked so good compared to just normal painting. They had even painted the wooden pillars. I just can’t imagine how someone was able to do it.

The pandal gave me the feeling that the only constraint that these people have is probably their creativity. If they envision something, they will just get it done. The artistic abilities are just oozing out of every single person who is working on it.

This is one Pandal where it made me think – they did all of this to just tear it apart after 10 days. Crazy!!

Pandal from outside. You can see ships landing.

More Bengali.
Look closely. They have stuck a rope on the wall to outline the image and painted it agree that. Gives a 3d outline effect.
Such pretty painting
By the lake. And stories on the walls too. Too much effort.
Terracotta Durga.
Closer look.
More paintings of various cultures around the world.
3D installation. They make it look so simple.
Even the ceiling is fully painted with stories and people.
Even a simple wooden pillar is painted. Not sure how they managed to do this even. Isn’t it so difficult?
Continuation of the same pillar. I didn’t even understand how to capture it in a photo and explain the detailing done.
Again the ceiling is also painted. These paintings remind me of Ravi Varma’s style of painting. But they make it look super easy.
Hot, humid sweaty n smiling
