There is a beautiful lake called the Gadisar lake in Jaisalmer. It is an artificial lake built almost 900 years ago to provide water to the Jaisalmer city. The lake is popular since it’s the only water body near the city. Also because it has a lot of Chattris and temples it looks photogenic.

There are temples around the lake. Like every temple or Haveli in Jaisalmer the temples have beautiful carvings and are made from sandstone.

You could also do boating on the lake. When you go in the evening you can see a lot of people around the lake. It is definitely a photographers delight.

Needless to say it’s a place for pre-wedding shoots. If you go to the lake during sunrise or sunset you are bound to see at least one group doing pre-wedding shoots. Fully dressed up man and women holding a fake kiss on the forehead for more than 2 mins multiple times to get the perfect photograph. 😃

In the evening they have a light and sound show. While the usual light and sound shows have fountains with different coloured lights, dancing to music, this has something extra too. Fine water was sprayed to create a vertical screen of water and a video was projected on it. They played the history of Jaisalmer narrated in ultra Shudh Hindi. Even Hindi speaking people won’t know the meaning of certain words used. All said it was a nice idea.

There were a couple of cafés serving the usual Cappuccino and toasts and stuff on the lake side. It was a calm place to just sit and enjoy the lake and it’s silence.

If you are in Jaisalmer, Gadisar lake is a must visit. A visit around Sunset or sunrise time is a bonus.
