A story in BLUE

I visited the Blue city which is Jodhpur for people who don’t know. To experience the Blue city better I took a Heritage walk called the Blue city walk.

Blue city Gulleys.

Why is the city in blue colour? There are so many theories. Some say the clay around Jodhpur has a natural blue colour. Some say Copper sulphate was added to keep termites away. Some say it’s to to keep the heat away. And some say it’s soothing to see.

Whatever be the reason the place looks nice and different to see. There are nice carvings on the walls and doors of the house. The carvings are something that Jodhpur old houses are famous for.

The gulleys are extremely small and extremely dirty. Borderline non-liveable. Many of them are dilapidated. It’s impossible to even take a two wheeler in some gulleys. And most of the have drainages leaking and rats all around.

Blue blue everywhere

In spite of the dirty place a lot of folks come here to take pre-wedding photos and to take photos for Instagram. While the photos all looks beautiful and nice, if you tilt the camera angle a little, you will know the filth around.

Dilapidated old buildings

There is a place called Castle View. It is a hotel and has a cafe attached. The view is the entire place from there is stunning. You can have a panoramic view of the Mehrangarh fort and the old city.

It’s a good place to take some nice photographs. The blue background definitely gives a different feel to the photos. Many building have stopped painting in Blue. But some still hold the tradition.

City behind me.
