I thoroughly enjoyed the food in Udaipur. It was the first place I stayed in Rajasthan for an extended period and I got to taste food from various places.

Poha was one of the most staple breakfast items available everywhere. I have to say that the poha in almost all the places tasted very good. These guys really know to make their Poha.

Khaman is also fresh and good and a super breakfast staple. I have to say that they have done a good job leaning it from their Gujarati neighbours
Pyaz Kachori and Samosa are also staple breakfast option. I particularly loved the Kadhi Kachori and Kadhi Khaman combos. On a cold winter day having a Kachori dipped in hot Kadhi is a pleasure to have. Strangely I have no photos of Kachori though I almost had it daily. Too eager to eat it may be.

The Gujaratis know to make Thalis. No one is contesting that. But the Rajasthani thali is equally amazing. A lot of side dishes are made from flour than vegetables. Eg. Papad ki sabzi, Sev Tamatar, Gatte ki Sabzi and so on. I also got to taste the recent fad Ker Sangri. This combined with some Bajra roti is a perfect lunch to have.

Again a staple food here. Dal bati churma. The trio combo is weird but nice. You can get it almost in every shop you go to.

No. This is not something the Rajasthanis have copied well from their Guj neighbours. The Fafda in Gujarat tastes way more better than the ones you get here.

While Pav Bhaji has spread all across India from Mumbai, I found the shape and size of the Pav different here. I am no major Pav Bhaji fan or expert and I found the taste was quite similar.

This is something one should definitely taste in Udaipur. They were making yummy fresh Gulab Jamuns and the taste was simply awesome. Take a walk in the old city and you will find plenty of shops there.

I also saw freshly made Namkeen. The taste of Bhujiya and dry Kachori was something else. I was cheated with something called Bhujiya all my life by Haldirams and Bikaji. Come here and taste the freshly made Bhujiya, you will know what it is.

I visited a place (probably known only to locals) where there was four shops that served only egg items. All of them served the same menu and apparently one person started it 25 years ago and the remaining three shops copied and followed. There is a good crowd there everyday. If you visit the place, have something called Egg Nice. It has so many layers and it’s amazing.
