I took a walk randomly one evening in Udaipur. I actually liked walking around the city esp. Old city. I walked to this place called Saheliyon Ki Bari. It’s a garden built not for the queen but for the maids of the queen.
The place was apparently designed by the king himself. King Rana Sangram Singh. I appreciate his love for the maids.
There is a huge swimming pool or pond with so many fountains in it. I can only imagine how it would have been with women swimming and playing in a pool as beautiful as this.
Behind the pool area there is a big lotus pond. The pond is surrounded by elephant statues acting as fountains. It was very beautiful even in the modern day. It’s also maintained well.
There are fountains and large gardens all around. Given it’s the dry Rajasthan, having fountains and gardens is really only a King thing.
There were some weird sculptures in the middle of a fountain. Atleast I found them weird. I think these are child faced topless angels!
